Football Falls at Plymouth State, 31-22

WESTFIELD, Mass. –  Plymouth State quarterback Braden Lynn tossed three touchdown passes to lead the Panthers to a 31-22 MASCAC football win over Westfield State at Panther Field in Plymouth, N.H. on Saturday afternoon.

Westfield (0-8, 0-6 MASCAC) was led by 102 yards rushing and a TD from Jordan Smith, while QB Colby Pires completed 24 of 36 passes for 234 yards and a touchdown.  Westfield WR Michael Foley caught seven passes for 86 yards, including an 63-yard scoring strike from Pires.   Dylan Disabella caught six passes for 77 yards, and Smith added five catches for 38 yards.

Westfield fell behind 14-0 in the first quarter on a 38-yard interception return for a touchdown by Plymouth's Evan Wilson, and a 16-yard TD pass from Lynn to Jake Donahue.  Donahue finished with seven catches for 104 yards for Plymouth (7-1, 5-1 MASCAC).

A 1-yard TD run from Shane Clark got Westfield on the scoreboard midway through the second quarter to cut the lead to 14-7.

Westfield capped a 12-play, 65-yard drive early in the fourth quarter with a 1-yard TD run from Smith and the extra point to trim the lead to 28-20.   Plymouth gained some breathing room with a field goal on their next drive. 

Westfield drove deep into Plymouth territory, but a 28-yard field goal attempts from Westfield's Evan Milstead was blocked, effectively ending the Owls' threat.

Cade Nelson finished with six tackles to lead Westfield State.

Westfield will travel to Worcester State next Saturday.
