WESTFIELD, Mass. –   Two Framingham State touchdowns in a 19-second span doomed the Owls chances, as the Rams topped Westfield State, 41-6 in a MASCAC football game at Bowditch Field in Framingham on Saturday afternoon.

The Rams improve to 2-2 overall and 2-0 in the MASCAC, while Westfield is now 0-4, 0-2 MASCAC.

Framingham led 13-0 after the first quarter, but Westfield trimmed the lead to 13-6 midway through the second quarter.  The Owls' drive was set up when Christian Julian (Hingham, Mass.) recovered a Framingham fumble in punt coverage to give Westfield the ball at the Framingham 31-yard line.   After an Owls penalty opened the drive, Westfield used a 33-yard halfback option pass from Lee Colon (Holyoke, Mass.) to Owen Thompson to get the ball inside the Framingham five-yard line.  Several plays later Westfield State senior quarterback Peyton Capizzi (E. Setauket, N.Y.) scored on a 1-yard run with 5:48 left in the half.

Things went wrong for the Owls late in the half. The Rams scored on a 5-play, 55-yard drive punctuated by a 39-yard touchdown pass from Nicolas Goffredo to Isaiah Hanks to boost the lead to 20-6 with 1:25 left in the half.

But on the ensuing play, Framingham's Gerell Boyce sacked Capizzi to force a fumble, which Boyce scooped and scored from the 15-yard line to boost the Rams halftime advantage to 27-6 after a Matthew Farley extra-point.

Goffredo was 9-for-23 passing with three touchdowns and one interception while Leonard chipped in a TD on three passing attempts. Hanks led the way receiving for the Rams with four receptions for 73 yards and three scores. Joseph added one catch for 40 yards and a touchdown and Elijah Nichols (Burlington, Mass.) added two catches for 31 yards.

On the ground,  the Rams picked up 66 yards on ten carries and a score from Marcus McBean Jr. , with Goffredo scrambling for 38 yards on seven attempts.

The Rams defense held the Westfield offense to 98 total yards led by Joshua Onujiogu with nine tackles, five for a loss, 1.5 sacks and an interception. Dylan DeWolfe (Marion, Mass.) added 10 tackles, three for a loss and Ashley picked up four tackles, a sack and a forced fumble.

Capizzi was 12-for-24 for 72 yards and a rushing touchdown under center for the Owls. Owen Thompson (Plympton, Mass.) caught three passes for 41 yards and Danny Farrell (Milford, Mass.) earned 39 yards on four catches.

The Owls were paced defensively by Cameron Danahy (Kingston, Mass.) who made eight tackles, while Peter Spinale (Ipswich, Mass.) made four solo tackles, three for a loss with two sacks. Marlek Connor Jr. (Rochester, NY) earned a pick and two tackles and two pass breakups.

The Rams return to the field next Saturday when they travel to Plymouth State for MASCAC clash at 1pm. The Owls host Mass Maritime for Family and Champions' weekend on the same day and time.
