WESTFIELD, Mass.  – Westfield State University was listed among teams receiving votes in the first New England Division III poll of the year.

On the heels of the Owls 42-22 win over Worcester State last weekend, the Owls picked up a point in the weekly balloting.  Westfield will look to keep that momentum rolling when the Owls host Bridgewater State this Saturday at 2:00 p.m. at Alumni Field.

MIT garnered the top spot in the weekly poll.   Western New England (8th) and UMass Dartmouth (10th) are the two teams to have defeated Westfield this season.  The Owls scrimmaged Springfield College, the second ranked team in the poll in the preseason.

The New England Division III Football Poll is presented by the Jack Grinold Eastern Massachusetts Chapter of the National Football Foundation, which also serves as the title sponsor of the weekly Gold Helmet Awards presented by the New England Football Writers Association throughout the season.

A panel representing all five New England Division III playing conferences will serve as voters in this year's poll, and rankings will be released each Monday afternoon through November 12th.  Members of this year's voting panel are Skip Bandini (Curry), Brian Bubna (MIT), Jeremy Cameron (Massachusetts Maritime), Jay Civetti (Tufts), Jeff Devanney (Trinity), Bill George (Coast Guard), Kevin Gilmartin (Salve Regina), Tom Kelley (Framingham State), Paul McGonagle (Endicott), Gabby Price (Husson), Chris Robertson (WPI), Mark Robichaud (UMass Dartmouth) and Tony Volpone (Castleton).
