Owls Mash Three Home Runs to Cruise Past Lasell, 13-2

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Trey Faulkner (Springfield, Mass.) and Chase Racine (Pittsfield, Mass.) each homered and drove in four runs as Westfield State cruised to a 13-2 victory over Lasell University from Lawnwood Park in Fort Pierce, Florida on Wednesday afternoon.

The Owls move to 7-3 overall and 4-2 on the Florida trip. Lasell drops to 5-5 on the year.

Devin Slattery (Ware, Mass.) gave the Owls a 1-0 lead in the top half of the first on an RBI groundout. Westfield then tacked on three additional runs in the fourth inning beginning with a leadoff home run from Racine, then with two out in the frame, Justin Neidel (Attleboro, Mass.) plated two runs on a double, opening up a 4-0 lead.

Westfield poured on seven runs in the final two innings which included a three-run homer from Faulkner with two out in the frame to push the lead up to seven runs at 9-2.

Sam Palmer (Medfield, Mass.) launched the Owls third home run of the game in the eighth inning, then Racine and Faulkner each pushed their RBI totals up to four with run-scoring hits of their own to put the game well out of reach.

Owls starter Ryan Lapierre (Pittsfield, Mass.) started his third game of the season and secured his third victory, scattering eight hits while allowing two runs (one earned) with two walks and nine strikeouts. Justin Lowden (Bayville, N.J.) got the starting nod for Lasell, taking the loss after allowing three runs on four hits over 3.1 innings, walking five and fanning one.

Scott Lyon (Weston, Mass.) singled home the Laser's first run of the game in the fifth inning, then Christopher Bulk (Portsmouth, R.I.) tacked on a second run in the sixth on a solo blast.

Westfield State has just one game remaining on their spring break trip as the Owls will face Northwestern (Minn.) tomorrow at 10:00 A.M. from Vero Beach, Florida.
