Three Owls Named to D3Baseball.com All-New England Team

WESTFIELD, Mass. - On the heels of a team appearance in the NCAA tournament, Westfield State University baseball has placed three players on the D3Baseball.com New England All-Region Team.

Junior center fielder Anthony Crowley (Bellingham, Mass.) was named to the first team, junior pitcher John Gegetskas (Academy of Sport and Medical Sciences/Windsor, Conn.) was named to the second team, and senior designated hitter Alex Lafayette (Ludlow, Mass.) was named to the third team.

Crowley was previously named the MASCAC player of the year and was a first-team All-MASCAC pick. He wrapped up the 2018 campaign with a .373 batting average, 14 doubles, 12 home runs and 55 rbi in 43 games played. Crowley tied the school record for home runs in a season and set a school record with 115 total bases.

Gegetskas was the MASCAC pitcher of the year and a first-team All-League selection. He finishes the 2018 season with an 8-1 overall record (the best 1-loss record for a pitcher in school history), two saves and a 2.29 earned run average. He threw 74.2 innings, allowed just 54 hits and struck out 86 hitters, breaking a 41-year old school record for strikeouts.

Lafayette previously earned first-team all-MASCAC honors at designated hitter. He tied with Crowley for the team lead in hits (57). He rapped 13 doubles and six home runs, drove in 35 runs and scored 30.

Westfield finished the season with a 24-18-1 overall record under fifth year head coach Nathan Bashaw. The Owls were 10-4 in the MASCAC and won the league's regular season title, and also won the conference tournament to earn an automatic bid to the NCAA regional tournament. The Owls played a tough non-conference schedule that included 11 games against eight teams that were also selected for the NCAA Tournament.
