Baseball Falls to Nichols

WESTFIELD, MA-Anthony Crowley led the Owls offensively with two doubles and two runs scored despite falling to Nichols College by a score of 11-2 in Westfield's final game of the regular season.

The Owls fall to 21-15-1 overall while Nichols improved to 13-26 overall to end their season.

Nate Marshall got the start for the Owls and threw two innings while only allowing two hits as both teams cycled through pitchers on the final day of the regular season.

In the third inning, Nichols strung together a few base hits before Cam Cook hit a single of his own knocking in the first run of the game. Chris Anderson followed up with another single scoring Cook and Nick Roy to take a 3-0 lead.

Nichols scored another three runs in the fourth inning to take a 6-0 lead after a couple walks and wild pitches in the inning. Roy had a sacrifice fly and then Kyle Bouchard doubled to left center knocking in an RBI. The Bison put another run on the board in the sixth after Roy singled to right and then stole second base. Bouchard would later single to right field scoring Roy.

The Owls would get on the board after back-to-back doubles by Anthony Crowley and Aaron Clancy to make the score 7-1 after six. Crowley would hit another double down the left field line in the eighth inning and would be driven in by Kyle Murphy after a double of his own to right center.

Nichols went on to put up four more runs in the ninth inning to make it 11-2.

Anthony Crowley went 2 for three with two doubles and two runs scores for the Owls. Kyle Murphy went 2 for 4 with an RBI and a double and Aaron Clancy went 1 for 3 with an RBI and a double.

Nichole College was led by Kyle Bouchard who went 4 for 5 on the day with two RBI and a double. Cam Cook went 3 for 6 with two RBI and two runs scored.

Brian Hollister took the loss for the Owls after allowing two earned runs on five hits in one inning pitched.

Jackson White got the win for the Bison allowing one hit and striking out one batter in one inning.

Westfield State University advances to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference playoffs on Friday against an opponent yet to be determined.
