Edwards Earns First Collegiate Win in 18-2 Score Over Anna Maria

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State junior All-New England center fielder Anthony Crowley (Bellingham, Mass.) posted a perfect day at the plate., pounding out five hits in five at bats, including a home run as the Owls posted an 18-2 win over Anna Maria College in a non-conference game at Bud and Jim Hagan Field on Thursday afternoon.

Crowley finished with four runs batted in and scored three runs. He ripped a solo home run to left center field in the third inning, his 10th of the season. Crowley moves into a tie for second place (with Dave Bevan) on the Owls single-season home run list, passing Owls Hall of Famer Bob Kallstrom '75. Former Dodgers farmhand Dave Carlucci holds the Owls' single-season record with 12 home runs.

Westfield also saw another season record matched, as graduate student outfielder Kyle Murphy (Westfield, Mass.) was hit by a pitch later in the third inning. Murphy has reached as a hit batsman 12 times this season, which ties the mark set by Garrett Kendziera in both 2006 and '07. Murphy had to work OT to match the record, as he was hit by another pitch earlier in the at-bat, but was not awarded first when the umpire determined Murphy did not attempt to move out of the way.

Westfield scored at least one run in each inning, except the sixth.

In addition to Crowley's field day, John Lippincott (Northwestern Reg./Barkhamsted, Mass.) added three hits in four at bats, with a double, a triple, and three runs batted in. Colin Dunn (Westfield, Mass.) drove in three runs with a double to the warning track in left field in the seventh inning. Dunn, Brett Dooley (The Gunnery/Cohasset, Mass.) and Nate Barnes (Westfield, Mass.) each had a pair of hits for the Owls, who rapped out 19 total hits in the game.

Westfield State also got a strong pitching performance from freshman pitcher Trevor Edwards (1-1) (Amherst, Mass.), who tossed five innings, allowing four hits and just one earned run while striking out five to get his first collegiate win.

Brian Hollister (Somers, Conn.) added three innings of scoreless relief, and Nate Langmeier (East Granby, Conn.) tossed a scoreless ninth to seal the win.

Anna Maria got both their runs in the fifth inning, with Jake Crevier (Ware, Mass.) driving in two men with a single. Starter Cam Brown (1-2) (Oakmont/Gardner, Mass.) took the loss on the mound.

Westfield State, which is tied for first in the MASCAC, plays a pair of key conference games on Saturday against Bridgewater State, which will be crucial in determining playoff seeding as the top five teams in the league are separated by just two games.

The Owls host Bridgewater State at noon, with the Owls senior day ceremonies scheduled for between games.
