Vanessa Morton graduated from Westfield State as the best swimmer in the 30-plus year history of the program.   Morton became the first Westfield State woman to win a New England Title in swimming, winning the 100 freestyle at the 2006 New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Championships.
Morton was four-year standout for the Owls. As a freshman she earned all-new England honors in the 100 individual medley, the 100 backstroke and the 50 freestyle.

A four-time MVP of the Owls swim team, she finished second at the NEISDA Championships as a sophomore in the 50 freestyle and third in the 100 freestyle.

As a junior in 2004-05, Morton helped the Owls to one of their best ever seasons with an 8-2 team won-lost record.  Morton earned All-New England honors in three events, with a second-place finish in the 100 free, a fourth-place finish in the 50 free, and a sixth-place finish in the 200 freestyle.
Morton capped her stellar career in 2005-06 with a New England title in the 100 freestyle, and a second-place finish in the 50 freestyle.  All told, she earned All-New England honors 10 times, and finished second in New England five other times.

She was named as Westfield State’s NCAA Woman of the Year in 2006.
She set five school records at Westfield State, and today, she still holds four school record times- in the 100 freestyle, the 200 freestyle, the 50 butterfly and the 100 butterfly.

A graduate of Nauset High School, she was a record-setting, four-year swimmer and a four-time MVP of her swim team, and competed in the YMCA Long Course Nationals in 2002.

Morton graduated from Westfield State with a degree in mass communication and a concentration in media arts. She later earned a Master’s Degree in special education from American International College, and after a three-year stint at Monomoy High School has recently accepted a position as a special education teacher at Nauset High School.  She has been an ocean front lifeguard for the town of Wellfleet for the past 15 years and competes annually in the Cape Cod Lifesaving competitions.
