James C. Hagan Award

James C. Hagan Award

The James C. Hagan Award is presented by the Westfield State University Athletics Hall of Fame to recognize sustained excellent service in support of the Westfield State athletics program.

In creating this award, the Athletics Hall of Fame committee recognizes individuals whose contributions have made significant impact through their volunteerism, length of service, and/or philanthropic support.

The award is named is honor of its first recipient, James C. Hagan, a 1984 Westfield State graduate and the president and CEO of Westfield Bank, which is the major financial sponsor of the Westfield State Athletics Hall of Fame. With his assistance, Westfield Bank has made generous gifts to the university totaling more than $200,000, with fully half of that earmarked for Westfield State athletics.

His father, Charles “Bud” Hagan, ushered Westfield State into its modern era of intercollegiate athletics, when he served as our first full-time athletics director. In fact, the Hall of Fame bear’s Bud’s name in recognition of his 34 years of service to Westfield State as a coach and an administrator.
