Tim Lightfoot is Westfield State’s most prolific football running back.

A transfer from Southern Connecticut State University, he made an immediate impact his first year at Westfield State in 1992. By the time his collegiate career ended in 1995, he had amassed a school record 4,380 yards rushing, which still ranks 27th on the NCAA Division 3 all-time list and fifth in New England.

The Tewksbury native earned all-conference honors four times in the New England Football Conference, including three years as a first-team selection. During his sophomore year, he was a Football Gazette All America honorable mention. He was a Football Gazette All-East pick in 1994, and a two-time ECAC All New England honoree.

The elusive but hard-hitting running back still holds 18 school records, including 295 yards rushing vs. Mass. Maritime in 1994, 876 career rushing attempts, and a career average of five yards per carry.

Other school records include: rushing attempts in a game (43), average rushing yards per game (121.7), most points scored in a season (84), and career 100-yard rushing games (20). He ranks second on the all-time scoring list with 222 points.

Lightfoot was inducted into the Tewksbury Hall of Fame in 2004 and played several years of semi-pro football in the Lowell area. He recently was selected as the offensive coordinator for the new eighth grade travel team in Tewksbury.

Lightfoot is employed as a lineman for Verizon. He and his wife, Maria, are the parents of a son, Danny (5).
