Among a storied history for Westfield State University track and field, Kerry Arouca’s resume stands out as one of the most decorated athletes; culminating with five All-America Awards and a pair of second-in-the-nation finishes in the 5,000 meters.

As a junior in 2008, she was the first Owls women's XC runner to qualify for the NCAA Division III national championship meet in 26 years, where she finished 83rd.

As senior in  the fall of 2009, she again qualified for the NCAA’s, and placed 19th out of 280 runners in Cleveland, Ohio – earning All-America honors in what was the second-best performance ever by an Owls women’s cross country athlete at the meet(behind only Cindy (Sturm) Menard who won the national title in 1983).

A seven time national qualifier, she earned two All-American awards in the 3,000 steeplechase, one All-American award in the indoor 5k and one All-American award in the outdoor 5k. She finished second in the nation in both 5,000-meter events, and was third in the nation in the steeplechase as a junior, and eighth as a senior.

She is a two-time MASCAC/New England Alliance Champion in cross-country, winning the meet in 2008 and 2009.

She was a 10-time All-New England runner. She won 19 conference championships between cross country, and the distance events in indoor and outdoor track and field.

In 2010, she served as President of the Student Athlete Advisory Committee, and was named the 2010 Howard C. Smith Female Scholar-Athlete of the year as the top senior scholar- athlete in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference.

At the time of her induction, she still holds school records in the steeplechase, the mile and the 1500.

Since graduation, Arouca has completed 13 marathons including a career best time of 2:59:08 at the Houston Marathon in 2016. Arouca has run the Boston Marathon six times, and was a member of the New Balance Boston Running club from 2010-17. She continues to compete (and win!) in a variety of local road races, and helped coach the Whitman Hanson girls XC team to a state championship in 2011.

She has stayed involved in the track and field community as a member of USA Track and Field, volunteering with the Boston New Balance series, and through coaching in schools and camps.

A former middle school teacher, Arouca now runs day care activities for several local physicians.   Now a resident of Brockton, Mass., Arouca and her fiance Dewayne Curtis have a four-year old son, Kai.
