Greg Gauvin is the most prolific scorer in the history of Westfield men’s basketball, ranking first on the college’s all-time charts with 1,845 points.

The 1996 Westfield State graduate was a Northeast Region first team and an All-New England second team selection during his junior season when he set school records for points scored (625) and scoring average (24.04). He was a three-time all-conference performer and in 1993 was named the New England Division III rookie of the year when he helped lead the Owls to a No. 4 ranking in New England and an NCAA tournament berth.

Gauvin finished his spectacular four years ranked first or second in nine career categories. He is still first in career free throws attempts and ranks second in free throws made and field goals and 3-pointers made and attempted.

Gauvin holds the school record for most points scored despite missing five games during his senior season with a knee injury. In 100 games played he averaged 18.45 points, the fifth-best scoring average in school history. The 6-4 swingman also rates near the top of the career charts in steals (third), assists (fifth) and rebounds (seventh).

Gauvin also excelled in the classroom as he was selected to the District I Academic All-America men’s basketball second team in 1995. In high school, he was a standout in both basketball and baseball and led Athol to the state championship basketball game his senior year.

Gauvin is still displaying his athletic talents as he is employed as the head golf professional at Southampton Golf Club on Long Island, N.Y. He has been the club pro since 2002 and plays in tournaments throughout Long Island.
