David Bergeron, a 2007 graduate of Westfield State College, was a two-time All-American in the javelin, narrowly missing a national title by finishing second in the nation as a senior in 2006.

Bergeron, earned All-America honors after he launched a then-school record throw of 208 feet at the NCAA Division III national outdoor track and field championships held at Benedictine College in Lisle, Ill.   Bergeron’s record toss came on his final throw of the competition to vault him into second place in the nation.

He won the javelin in each meet he entered his senior season until the NCAA Championships.  He claimed the MASCAC, New England Alliance, ECAC, New England Division III and New England All-Divisions meet titles along the way, setting a record at the Alliance meet, and defeating Division I and II athletes at the All New England meet.

Bergeron’s standout senior year only improved upon a sensational junior season which he had capped with a sixth-place finish at the NCAA championships held at Wartburg College in Iowa to earn All-America status.

Bergeron helped the Owls to four consecutive MASCAC outdoor championships, completing a string of 10 straight his senior season, and part of a run of 23 titles in the 24 years in the storied history of the Westfield State track and field program. He competed in long jump, triple jump, Javelin, 4x100, 400 hurdles.

A native of Northbridge, Mass., Bergeron competed in football and track and field at Northbridge high school where he earned 17 varsity letters, set several high school records, and was a three-time district champion, and part of two Massachusetts Super Bowl Championship teams.

Having completed his eligibility in track and field, Bergeron returned to the gridiron at Westfield State in the fall of 2006 after last playing football in 2001. Bergeron ended up as the Owls second leading rusher, and averaged more than 24 yards per kick return.

Bergeron’s passion in track was continued through his teammate, friend and athlete Andrew Soltysiak, who went on to become a 2 x NCAA All-American after Bergeron graduated from Westfield.

After graduating from Westfield with a degree in Movement Science and a focus in Physical Education, he competed in track and field for two years after college, finding his passion in rugby and playing for five years with Boston’s Old Gold Rugby club.

As a resident of Chelsea, Massachusetts, Bergeron is the current Director of Operations at EverybodyFights, the King of boxing gyms, a start-up that broke ground in January of 2014 and currently has three locations stretching from Boston to New York, with plans to spread nationally.

Bergeron has been active with charitable activities, serving as a head fitness educator for the Pan Mass Challenge (PMC), an annual bike-a-thon that raises more money for charity than any other single event in the country, in which $47 million was raised last year, and participating as a Co-Captain of Team Path to The Cure which has raised over $1 million to fight pediatric cancer over eight years.

David wishes to honor his parents David and Kathy Bergeron, his brother Joseph, and sister Nicole Bergeron with this award and milestone.

Bergeron’s #whyIfight “I fight to motivate the unmotivated, to strike fear in failure, to define tenacity, to let passion and grit drive my vibe, to love with my whole heart, and to fight for those who can no longer fight, but live in our memories as legends.”
