Men’s basketball guard Dave Jaehnig compiled an impactful four-year career with the Owls as he still ranks tenth all-time in school history with 1,310 career points.

Jaehnig is a two-time first team all-conference selection in 2007-08 and 2008-09, and was the league’s Rookie of the Year as a freshman in the 2005-06 season where the Owls were MASCAC Regular Season Co-Champions.

The durable swingman ranks second all-time in games played for the Owls at 105, and ranks in the Owls top-ten in steals (162) and free throws made (356). Jaehnig, a 6-4 guard, showed his defensive versatility by blocking 70 career shots to place him 11th all time in program history.

In his senior year, the Quincy, Mass. native led the Owls in scoring (14.9 PPG), rebounding (6.8), steals, and assists as the Owls posted their third highest win total over the first 58 years of the program’s history by registering 18 victories.

The team enjoyed great success under Jaehnig’s leadership as the team was 72-38 during his four seasons, which is the second most victories over the course of a four-year span in school history.  The Owls never won less than 17 games in a season in his four seasons. Jaehnig’s direction guided the Owls to consecutive trips to the MASCAC Championship game while also qualifying for the ECAC New England Division III Tournament in his senior year.

Jaehnig is also still involved with the game of basketball as he is an IAABO certified basketball official, has coached youth and travel teams, and helped to run clinics for the Sacred Heart North Quincy youth basketball program that his father started 35 years ago.

A native of Quincy, Mass., Jaehnig came to Westfield State in 2005 after graduating from Boston College High School. He received a Bachelor’s of Science in business management and now resides in Stoneham. He is currently a middle school math teacher in Waltham, Mass.   Dave was recently married to his wife, Haley (Cordeau) Jaehnig.
