Franklin made an immediate impact his first season at Westfield State in 1992, earning first team all-conference honors and leading the Owls to an ECAC Tournament berth. He finished his brilliant two-year WSC career with 892 points, averaging 16.8 points per game. He holds school records for assists in a game (15) and season (203).

Despite being recruited by Division I colleges, Franklin transferred to Westfield State from Springfield Technical Community College, where he was a two-time All-State and All New England player.

In high school, he was a standout at Chicopee Comp and led the Colts to the 1987 Western Mass. championship.

Smith Senior Scholar-Athlete of the Year, and was a college sports information directors of America All District first team selection in 1993. He received the Division III New England Basketball Coaches Association Academic Award, and was an NCAA postgraduate scholarship finalist.

Franklin was selected to Who’s Who in America’s College and Universities in 1992. Also, he was a leader and co-founder of the Westfield State students for racial justice.

Following his graduation from Westfield State, Franklin remained active on the hard court for 10 years, playing in several summer and winter leagues throughout Massachusetts and Connecticut. He has been employed as a social worker at the Springfield Department of Social Services since 1993.

Franklin resides in Chicopee with his wife, Eliana, and their children: Jasmine (16), Shayna Roy (16), and Jaylen (10).
