Chris Lapointe graduated as the top passer and one of the top leaders in Westfield State football history.

A three-year starter at quarterback, Lapointe led the Owls to the only undefeated regular season in program history with a 10-0 record in 2001, including the New England Football Conference title with a win over Nichols College in the championship game and an appearance in the NCAA Division III football playoffs.

Lapointe led the Owls to 17 straight regular season wins.  In 2002 and 2003, Lapointe guided the Owls to consecutive Bogan division titles. The team went 8-2 as a junior in 2002 and advanced to an ECAC Bowl game, and 7-3 as a senior, when he missed part of the season due to a broken hand.

In total, he set more than a dozen school records for passing and total offense.

Lapointe set career records for passing attempts (767), completions (767), yards (4,751) and TDs (51), and total offense (4,678 yards), season records for attempts (304), completions (146) and TDs (25), and single-game records for attempts (48), completions (22),  yards (390), TDs (5), and total offense (401 yards).

Lapointe still holds the record for most career touchdown passes (51) and single-season touchdowns (25) set in 2002.

Lapointe still ranks second on the Owls career passing yards (4,751) and compiled the second most career total offensive yards at 4,678.

He was selected first team All-New England Football Conference in 2002 and won the prestigious Gold Helmet as New England player of the week.

A native of Turners Falls, Mass., and a graduate of Turners Falls high school, Lapointe started his collegiate career at Division 1-AA Central Connecticut before transferring to Westfield State as a sophomore.

Lapointe served for nine years as the head football coach at Turners Falls High School, where he led the team to two Western Mass Championships (2013 and 2016) and into two state semifinal games.

A 2004 graduate as a criminal justice major at Westfield, Lapointe is currently a Massachusetts State Police Trooper, assigned to the Franklin/Hampshire detective unit, and is active in community service, receiving the Mothers Against Drunk Driving Award three times, and received the “Elk of the Year” Award from the Montague Elks in 2012. He has coached with the Special Olympics, a variety of youth sports, and currently serves as president of the Frontier Youth Football Association.  He earned a master’s degree in criminal justice from Boston University.
