Andrea Bertini (’96) achieved national acclaim for her 3-point shooting exploits. During her playing days at Westfield in the mid 1990s, she held six NCAA Division III 3-point shooting records.

Bertini still ranks third in the NCAA record books for making 119 3-point baskets during her sensational sophomore season. Her 4.1 shots made per game from beyond the arc that season still remains the eighth highest average in NCAA history.

The sharpshooting guard/forward also holds the following Westfield 3-point shooting marks: career 3-pointers made (287) and attempted (769); season attempts (373); made (9) and attempted (23) in a game; and consecutive games (40) making a 3-point basket.

The Salem, Mass., native finished her stellar four-year career with 1,310 points, fifth best on the Owls’ scoring charts. She also ranks ninth in both career assists (243) and steals (180).

An All-New England third team honoree in 1996 and a three-time Mass. State Conference first team selection, Bertini helped to lead Westfield to the best four-year stretch in school history. The Owls posted a sparkling 88-27 record with four straight 20-win seasons, captured two MASCAC championships and participated in NCAA tournaments in 1995 and 1996. Westfield was the ECAC tournament runner-up in 1993 and an ECAC tournament semifinalist in 1994.

Bertini begins her fifth year as head coach of the Westfield State women’s basketball team. This past season she guided the Owls to a school best 22-5 record, the MASCAC championship, and an NCAA tournament bid.

Prior to returning to Westfield, Bertini had been the head coach at Newbury College and an assistant at Colby College. She earned a communication degree from Westfield and a master’s degree in psychology/coaching from Springfield College.
