Two Owls, Team Receive All-Academic Awards For Women's Cross Country

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Two members of the Westfield State women's cross country team were named U.S Track and Field and Cross Country Association All-Academic Individuals for the 2019 NCAA Division III Cross Country season,  the organization announced on Thursday.

 The Owls' freshman Grace Phair (Stockbridge, Mass.) and sophomore Amy O'Sullivan (Greenfield, Mass.) were both named for this honor.

The Owls team was also named for the All-Academic team award with a GPA of 3.62.

 In order to qualify for the All-Academic distinction, student athletes must have a cumulative GPA of at least 3.30 on a 4.0 scale, as well as finishing in the top 25 percent of their respective regional championship meet. 

 Phair a regional planning major, was 41st at the NCAA New England Regional, while O'Sullivan, majoring in math and economics placed 24th.

The Owls placed 18th under the guidance of head coach Bill Devine at the regional meet. 

 O'Sullivan and Phair will be competing with the Owls' track and field team in the Coast Guard Invitational at the Coast Guard Academy in New London, Connecticut this Friday February 7.
