Women's Track and Field Second at Utica

Westfield State senior Lauren Gilderdale won a pair of events as the Westfield State women's track and field team placed second at the Pioneer Winter Classic at Utica College on Saturday.
 
Gilderdale won the weight throw with a toss of  15.41m (50'6.75") and then claimed the top spot in the shot put with a toss of 11.63 (38'-2").
 
Other top performances for the Owls included senior Maggie DaMotta, who topped the 400 meters in 1:01.51 and also placed third in the 200 meters in 27.30.
 
Sophomore Amy O'Sullivan won the 5,000 meters in a time of18:59.35, with teammate Andrea Noland second in 19:38.26, and freshman Grace Phair won the 1-mile run in 5:18.32.
 
RPI topped the six-team meet with a score of 188, followed by Westfield with 137 and the host Pioneers at 115.50.
 
Westfield State will break for finals and the winter break before returning to action with another meet at Utica, the Pioneer Invitational on January 18.
