Women's Track Fourth At Corsair Classic

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Westfield State seniors Lexi Popp and Kerri Long ran 1-2 in the 400 intermediate hurdles to lead the Owls efforts at the Corsair Classic outdoor track and field meet at North Dartmouth, Mass. on Saturday.

The Owls placed fourth in the team scoring among 17 scoring teams.  Division II Southern New Hampshire won the meet, followed by Eastern Connecticut and Springfield College.

Popp clocked in in 1:05.71 and Long in 1:08.79 in their seasonal debut in the event.  Popp was a national qualifier in the 400 hurdles last season.

That duo also padded the Owls scoring total by finishing third and fourth in the 110 high hurdles as well.

Long and Popp were also members of the winning 4x100 relay, partnering with Carly Smith and Moira MacDonald.

Lauren Gilderdale placed second in the hammer throw at 45.32m (148'-08"), Victoria Sparages took third in the javelin with a toss of 37.30m (122'-04") and Lauren Fitzgerald was third in the 10,000 meters in 43.38.65 to lead the Owls scorers at the meet.

Westfield will travel to the Coast Guard Invitational next Saturday.  The Owls will host their traditional home meet, the Jerry Gravel Invitational, on April 13.
