Three Earn All-Region Honors; Popp Set To Compete at NCAA's

WESTFIELD, Mass.  –  Three Westfield State track and field athletes were designated as All-Region honorees by the US Track and Field and Cross Country Coaches Association on Monday.

Senior sprinter-hurdler Lexi Popp (Westford, Mass.), junior thrower Lauren Gilderdale (Housatonic/Great Barrington, Mass.), and junior multi event athlete William Canty (Grafton/S. Grafton, Mass.) were recognized.

The top five individuals in each event and the top three relay teams in each region are recognized.

Canty was recognized in the heptathlon, Gilderdale in the shot put and Popp in the 400 meters.

Popp is the third seed in the women's 400 meters in the upcoming NCAA Division III championships at the Reggie Lewis Center in Boston on Friday and Saturday. 

She will compete in the preliminary event on Friday at 5;40 p.m., and hopes to qualify for the final which will be run on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.

She has lowered her own school record in the 400 several times this season, and goes into the championship with a seed time of 56.09 seconds.,

A total of 1,590 men and women earned all-region honors nationwide.
