Popp, O'Sullivan Earn MASCAC Weekly Honors

Composite of Lexi Popp (L) and Amy O'Sullivan

WESTFIELD, Mass.  –  Westfield State senior Lexi Popp (Westford Academy/Westford, Mass.) and freshman Amy O'Sullivan (Greenfield, Mass.) took home two of the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference weekly awards, as they earned the women's track athlete of the week and the women's track and field rookie of the week awards on Monday for their performances at this past weekend's conference championship week.

Both were top point-scorers for the Owls as the Westfield women won the league title.

Popp led the way for the Owls at Saturday's MASCAC Indoor Track & Field Championship meet, winning the 200m in 26.72, the 400m in a MASCAC record time of 58.83 seconds, and was part of the Owls winning 4x200 and 4x400 relay teams. She also placed second in the 60m hurdles.

O'Sullivan won the 5,000 meters in a time of 18:58.03 and took second place in the 3000 meters at the MASCAC Indoor Track & Field Championship meet on Saturday.

Popp will next run on Sunday at Boston University as she tries to lower her seed time as she currently ranks sixth in the nation in the 400 with the NCAA Championship meet approaching in early March.
