Johnstone Wins NEISDA Title in 100 Breaststroke

WESTFIELD, Mass. –   Westfield State senior Kelsey Johnstone (Southwick, Mass./Westfield HS) will cap her career with a New England Championship, as she won the New England Intercollegiate Swimming and Diving Asscociation title in the 100 breaststroke on Saturday evening at the Tootell Pool at the University of Rhode Island.
 
Johnstone touched the wall in 1:07.13, edging second place finisher Madison Pechulis of Keene State by .75 of a second.
 
The Owls placed sixth in the 200 medley relay.  The unit of Kait Kelly (Hampden/Minnechaug), Johnstone, Carly Thibodeau (Mendon, Mass.) and Nicole Pechulis (Longmeadow, Mass.) compiled a time of 1:56.85.
 
Kelly made it to the A final in the 100 backstroke, taking eighth place, while Sarah Sartoris (East Hartford, Conn./South Windsor) made the B final and placed 12th overall.
 
Westfield moved up a spot in the team standings to 8th place with 322 points.  Roger Williams leads the 21-team meet with 1056 points.  The event finishes up on Sunday.
