Swimming 7th After Day One Of New England Championships, Johnstone Breaks 200 IM School Record

CAMBRIDGE, Mass. -- Junior Kelsey Johnstone (Southwick, Westfield, Mass.) set the school record in the 200 yd. IM as the women's swimming and diving team sits in seventh place after the Friday finals.

Johnstone finished third overall in the 200 yd. IM with a time of 2:11.39, breaking her own previous record by just one hundredth of a second (2:11.40)

Shannon Fitzsimmons (Andover, Mass.) finished sixth in the 500 yd freestyle, while sophomore Kait Kelly (Minnechaug/Hampden, mass.) took seventh in the 200 yd. backstroke.

The relay team of Kelly, Johnstone, Fitzsimmons, and Nicole Pechulis (Longmeadow, Mass.) placed sixth in the 400 yd. medley relay with a time of 4:11.18

Senior Monique Groux (Agawam, Mass.) placed first in the women's diving preliminary with a score of 360.35, putting her in a great position to compete for the title this afternoon.

The Owls continue with the NEISDA championships over the weekend, with more final results to be gathered on Saturday and Sunday.
