Swimming Celebrates Senior Day With Win Over R.I.C.

WESTFIELD, Mass.  –    Westfield State swimmers and divers won the first eight events, as the Owls swam to a 116-92 win over Rhode Island College in a dual meet at the Ely Pool on Saturday.

The Owls improved to 6-2 on the season in dual meet competition.

The quartet of Lyric Lamagdelaine, Emily Smith, Carly Thibodeau and Nicole Pechulis got the Owls off to a fast start in the meet by winning the 200 medley relay with a time of 2:08.70.

Owls senior diver Monique Groux celebrated her senior day with a win in the 1-meter diving with a score or 246.40, and then recorded a score of 228.60 in the 3-meter diving.    Owls' freshman Hannah McKenna turned in scores of 162.95 and 172.90 in placing second in both events.

Fellow senior Shannon Fitzsimmons topped the 100 butterfly in 1:04.33.

The Owls celebrated their senior day before the meet, recognizing the careers of Siobhan Carey, Groux and Fitzsimmons.  That trio partnered with McKenna to swim the 200 free relay to close the meet, their final competitive swim in the Ely Pool.
