Women's Lacrosse Earns Academic Honors

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State University's women's lacrosse team has been named as an IWLCA/ Zag Sports Academic Honor Squad, according to a recent release from the organization, and four individuals were cited as members of the Division III Academic Honor Roll.

Westfield State's Lucy Barrett (Mt. Greylock/Williamstown, Mass.), Sam Donohoe (North Middlesex/Pepperell, Mass.), Lily Howes (Waconah/Cummington, Mass.) and Kirsten Longbottom (Avon, Conn.) were recognized on the academic honor roll.

To be eligible for this honor, student-athletes must be a junior, senior, or graduate student and have earned a cumulative academic GPA of 3.50 or greater. 

As team the Owls were one of 312 schools across Division I, II, III, and NAIA as IWLCA Zag Sports Academic Honor Squads for the 2018-19 academic year. To qualify for this prestigious honor, the women's lacrosse team must have posted a 3.0 or higher team GPA for the academic year.

Westfield State finished the 2019 season with an 11-10 overall record and won their third-straight Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Tournament title, and made a third-consecutive appearance in the NCAA Division III national tournament.

The Owls had a six-game winning streak late in the year, including three straight wins in the MASCAC Tournament to win the tourney out of the #3 seed, defeating the top two seeds on the road to claim the title.
