WESTFIELD, Mass.- The Westfield State women's basketball team set a new single game record for three point attempts (56) in a 103-93 win over Albertus Magnus in the home opener on December, 6 in the Woodward Center.

The win brings the Owl record to 4-2 and gives the Falcons their first set back of the season after beginning the year 7-0.

Reigning MASCAC player of the week, Mellissa Gray (Peabody/ Peabody), led the Owls going 5-11 beyond the arc for 24 total points. Chelsea Moussette (Southampton/ Hampshire Regional) and Lucy Barrett (Williamstown/ Mt. Greylock) each added 16 with Moussette dishing out nine assists and Barrett picking up five steals.

A 17-3 Owl run in the middle of the second quarter started by a Mousette jumper and bookended by a Barrett fast break layup, erased a one point deficit and staked Westfield a 44-31 advantage, a lead they would retain till the final buzzer.

Albertus was able to shrink the margin to three towards the end of the third quarter, 70-67, on a Shyla Osmond (New Haven, Conn./ HSC) jumper, but back- to- back threes by Taina Slaughter (Springfield/ Chicopee) and Moussette provided all the cushion the Owls would need to ride out the victory.

Osmond scored 20 with eight assists in the setback. Jill Johnson (North Haven, Conn./ North Haven) posted a game-high 28 points for the Falcons and the combo of Raegon Shirling-Davis (Waterbury, Conn./ Kennedy) and Rah Rah Thompson (Bridgeport, Conn./ Kolbe Cathedral) grabbed 17 and 16 boards respectively. Thompson completed a double-double on the night with 17 points.

Both teams return to action on Saturday, Dec. 8 for a pair of 1:00 pm tip-offs. The Owls travel to Sage College and the Falcons host Pine Manor.
