Owls Place 15th at Purple Valley Invitational

Westfield State cross country runners at the start of the 2018 James Earley Meet

Westfield State University's men's cross country ran to a 15th place finish at the Purple Valley Invitational cross country meet at the Mount Greylock Course in Williamstown, Mass., on Saturday.

For the Owls, the meet served as a preview of the course and distance that they will run at the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Championships on October 27.

Today, senior Tim Forrest was the first Owl in with a 70th place result in 27:38.3.   Brandon Leclair followed in 105th in 28:12.5, with Kevin Rayner 124th in 28:29.7.

209 men contested the 8-kilometer race, which featured five nationally-ranked teams.   Amherst entered the raced ranked 3rdnationally, RPI, 6th, MIT, 7th, and Middlebury, 8th. Host Williams ranked 17th.

RPI won the team race with 41 totals points, with the Engineers' Sean O'Connor taking home top individual honors with a time of 25:44.7.  Westfield finished with 412 points.

Westfield will be back in action on October 6, when the Owls host the James Earley Invitational meet at Stanley Park in Westfield.
