WESTFIELD, Mass.  – The Westfield State men's cross country team has been selected to finish third in the Massachusetts State Athletic Conference, based on the preseason vote of the seven coaches around the conference.

The Owls finished third last year at the conference championship meet, collecting 84 points as a team.

The defending MASCAC champion Falcons of Fitchburg State were chosen to repeat, collecting three of the possible seven first place votes and 33 total points. In second was Bridgewater State, gathering 31 points and three first place votes. The Owls rounded out the top three with 29 points and the last first place vote.

The Owls will look to All-Conference runners Tim Forrest (Grafton/Westborough) and Patrick Brett (Hanson/Whitman-Hanson), who finished seventh and ninth respectively in the MASCAC championship meet, to lead the charge this fall.

The Owls open up the season with the Trinity Invitational in Manchester, CT on Saturday, September 8 at 10:30 a.m. The MASCAC championships are scheduled for Saturday, October 27 at Mount Greylock in Williamstown, MA.
