Canty Takes Second at Harvard Heptathlon

WESTFIELD, Mass. –  Westfield State senior William Canty (S. Grafton, Mass./Grafton HS) placed second in the men's heptathlon at the Harvard University multi-events meet held at the Gordon Indoor Track in Cambridge, Mass. on Friday and Saturday.

Canty finished with 4,474 points, second to Division I Brown University's Jonathan Pelusi, who finished with 4,810 points.  Canty was the lone athlete from an NCAA Division III school competing in the 11-man field.

Canty did his best work in the 60 meter dash  7.24 seconds) and the 60 meter hurdles (8.75), winning both events. He placed third in the shot put with a toss of 40'-0.75", and third in the pole vault at 12'-5".

The lone member of the Owls to compete this week, Canty will be joined by his teammates as the Owls men's and women's teams return to campus this week and will compete at Smith College next Saturday.
