Six Owls Named to USTFCCCA All-Region Teams

Six Westfield State University track and field athletes earned All-Region honors for a total of nine awards, the USTFCCCA announced this week.

Junior William Canty (Grafton, Mass.) led the way, earning All-New England honors in the decathlon, the 400 meters, and the 4x400 relay.

Canty's teammates on the 4x400 relay team, seniors Connor Gottzmann (Longmeadow, Mass.) and Esteafan Jack (Boston, Mass.) and sophomore Mitch Maslowski (Berlin, Conn.) also received honors in that event.

The Owls' women's squad had three athletes recognized as All-New England performers, as junior Lauren Gilderdale (Great Barrington, Mass.) was recognized in the hammer, while seniors Lexi Popp (Westford, Mass.) and Kerri Long (Weymouth, Mass.) were cited for their performances in the 400 meters.

Top-5 individuals in each event from each region earned All-Region honors, in addition to each of the members of a top-3 ranked relay teams.

A total of 1,915 honors were handed out to athletes from USTFCCCA member institutions, which included a near-even split between men's (951) and women's programs (964).
