Westfield State Men's Outdoor Track and Field Earns Second Place in Preseason Coaches’ Poll

Westfield, Mass. - The Westfield State men's track and field team was voted second in the MASCAC preseason coaches' poll for the upcoming outdoor season. Bridgewater State earned the top spot in the vote after taking home the title last season.

Highlighting the Owls' returning athletes is junior William Canty (South Grafton, Mass.) who earned All-Region honors in 2018, and will look to build off of a strong indoor track season where he set the school record in the heptathlon.

Westfield State returns a solid group of sophomores featuring Zac Bentley (Acushnet, Mass.), Owen Ortiz (Greenfield, Mass.), and Connor Grady (Douglas, Mass.), as well as senior Dorian Johnson (Reading, Mass.) and junior Shea Hiltz (Tewksbury, Mass.)

Bentley, Grady, and Hiltz were members of the 4x800 team that took first place overall in the 2018 MASCAC championship meet, finishing with a conference record time of 8:02.64, while Canty, Ortiz, and Johnson helped take home gold in the 4x100.

The Westfield State men last won the MASCAC title back in the 2015-2016 season, capping off a run of three straight titles.
