WESTFIELD, Mass.  – Plymouth State University tallied two third period goals to keep their unbeaten streak alive, as the Panthers defeated Westfield State University 5-2 in MASCAC action Saturday night at Amelia Park Ice Arena.

Both teams were knotted 1-1 after one, until Matt Volonnino (Hackettstown, N.J) put home the rebound of Ryan Stevens' (Colleyville, Texas) initial shot to make it 2-1 Plymouth only 34 seconds into the second. Mike McPherson (Somerville, Mass.) would pot another only three minutes later to extend the Panther lead to 3-1.

Westfield State would have an answer, as midway through the frame junior Rob Neuwirth (Zlin, Czech Republic) would provide the deflection off a shot from Wyatt Trumbley (Campbell River, B.C.) to make it 3-2.

But the Panthers would pull away after two quick goals in the third by Henrik Axelson (Danderyd, Sweden) and Tim Perron (Northborough, Mass.) to put them up for good.

With the win, Plymouth stays unbeaten with an 8-0-1 overall record (5-0-1 in MASCAC play) and the Owls drop to 3-4-2 overall (2-3 in MASCAC play).

Plymouth will host Endicott College on Thursday night, with action beginning at 6:00 p.m.
