Hockey Set to Host Pink the Rink

WESTFIELD, Mass. - Westfield State University's men's ice hockey team (9-11-1 overall, 7-8 in MASCAC) is sponsoring its ninth annual Pink the Rink game on Thursday, February 15th when it hosts Worcester State University (13-8-1 overall, 8-6-1 in MASCAC) in a Massachusetts Collegiate Athletic Conference game at 7:35 p.m. at Amelia Park Ice Arena in Westfield.

Westfield State's Pink the Rink game aims to raise awareness and funds for cancer research.

All family, friends and fans are encouraged to wear pink to the game to bring awareness to the disease. Throughout the game there will be opportunities to make donations to those wishing to support the American Cancer Society.

The Westfield State men's hockey team is fourth in the MASCAC standings behind Worcester State, who has a three point lead over the Owls.

Westfield looks to get an advantage over Worcester as the two teams battle for a playoff spot in the MASCAC tournament. The two teams are 1-1 so far this season, as Worcester topped Westfield 1-0 in November. The Owls answered with a 4-3 victory over the Lancers in January. The winner of the game Thursday will hold a tiebreaker advantage if necessary at the end of the season.

Once again the Owls will be wearing a specially designed jersey for this event. It features the "throwback logo" of the 1978 Westfield State ice hockey team that captured the ECAC championship.

This year's team is selling these jerseys for $90 each, with the option of size, name and number. Orders for the jerseys will be taken through Mike Young, the associate head coach of the men's hockey team, by email (mdyoung@westfield.ma.edu) until the end of the 2017-18 hockey season.

Checks should be made payable to the Westfield State Foundation. Any profit from the sale of the jerseys will also benefit the American Cancer Society.

The entire student body and the residents of Westfield and surrounding towns are encouraged to attend to support the cause and to root on the Owls in one of their final games of the season.

Westfield State ice hockey thanks you for your continued support of the team and the Pink the Rink cause.
