#14 Plymouth Stops Hockey, 6-3

WESTFIELD, Mass. -- Ludvig Steenburg scored a pair of goals to lead #14 Plymouth State University to a 6-3 win over Westfield State University in the final Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference game of the season for both teams at the Hanaway Rink in Plymouth, N.H. on Tuesday evening.

With the win, Plymouth (19-4-2, 15-2-1) winds up the season as the regular season champion and the #1 seed in the conference tournament and will host a semifinal round game on Tuesday, February 27 at 7:00 p.m.

Westfield State (10-13-1, 8-10 MASCAC) winds up as the fifth seed for the MASCAC Conference tournament, which begins on Saturday. The Owls will travel to play #4 UMass Dartmouth at Hetland Arena in New Bedford, Mass. at 5:30 p.m.

Steenburg tallied the first goal of the night on a on rebound on the power play, but it was the only goal the Owls would yield in an opening period that saw Westfield goaltender Kameron Limburg stops 17 of the 18 shots he faced as the Owls were out-shot 18-8.

The second period was not as kind to the Owls, with three different Panthers players scoring, including Steenburg netting his second of the game to post a 5-0 lead, before Westfield answered with a late goal from FX Girard to go to the second intermission trailing 5-1.

The teams swapped a pair of goals each in the third, with Samuel Gagnon and Nik Passero tallying for Westfield for the 6-3 final. Girard finished with a goal and two assists for Westfield.

Limburg finished with 42 saves for the Owls while facing 48 shots on goal, while Evan Morelli made 20 saves for the Panthers
