WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State junior guard Chris Prophet (Central/Springfield, Mass.) scored a career-best 30 points to lead the Owls to a 100-70 MASCAC men's basketball win over Framingham State on Wednesday evening at the Woodward Center.

The Owls ran out to a 54-37 halftime lead in front of a big home crowd and never looked back. 

Westfield improves to 12-10 overall and 5-4 in the league, holding on to a share of second place in the conference race.    Framingham drops to 5-17 overall and 4-6 in the league.

Prophet shot 8-15 from the floor, 7-12 from three-point range and 8-10 at the line in a fine all around performance that included five assists and three steals.    The Owls finished with six players in double figures in scoring , as Moody Bey (Monson HS/Springfield, Mass.) added 15 and Vawn Lord (West Springfield/Amherst, Mass.) 14 points and 8 rebounds.

For Framingham, senior guard Manny Payton (Fitchburg, Mass.) matched Prophet shot for shot, finishing with 31 points on 13-23 shooting.  Payton was the lone Ram to score double figures, as Tyri Hampton (Fitchburg, Mass.) added nine and Khaneil Bruce (St. Clements/Cambridge, Mass.)(finished with nine points and 11 rebounds.

Westfield State will be back in action on Saturday, traveling to league-leading Salem State for a 1:00 p.m. tip.  Framingham will face Bridgewater State on Saturday.

The Owls drew a good crowd for the game, as they honored the 271 student athletes who acheieved a 3.0 or better cumulative GPA through the fall semester.   The Owls men's basketball team unusually remained on the bench during the halftime ceremony to cheer on their classmates and teammates who were recognized.
