Recent Highlights:

2022 Season: Bergen steered the Owls to a 10-9 overall finish while maintaining a 7-5 record in conference play, earning a spot in the Little East Conference playoffs as the seventh seed. The Owls finished off the year winning five of their final eight games following a four-game winning streak late in the season. The Owls under Bergen tied the record for most goals scored in a single game with 10 against Elms College on September 10, 2022. Juniors Skyla Harthcock and Emily Martin earned Little East All-Conference selections with Harthcock earning a spot on the Second Team, and Martin being selected for the Third Team.

2021 Season: Bergen led the Owls on a late-season six-game winning streak to break into the top five of the Little East Conference. Bergen was named the Little East Conference Coach of the Year for her efforts. Senior forward Cheryl Latona received placement on the MASCAC All-Conference First-Team while sophomore defender Bre Foley was named to the all-conference second-team. bg

2017 Season: Bergen guided the Owls to the Little East Conference championship game, entering the conference tournament as a #4 seed, and winning a pair of games, including an upset of top-seed Worcester State in the semifinals, before falling at #2 Keene State in the championship game.

Career Highlights: Bergen led the program to the regular-season MASCAC Championship in 2014, and coached the Owls to an 11-win seasons in both 2012 and 2016, just one win shy of the school record for wins in a season.  

 In her time at Westfield, the Owls have excelled both on the field and in the classroom.  The program has placed fifty-nine members on the NFHCA National All-Academic Squad, earned five NFHCA National Academic Team Honors, and had four student-athletes named as NFHCA Scholars of Distinction.  Seventy-nine players have been named to the MASCAC All-Academic Team, forty to the LEC All-Academic Team, and sixteen players have earned Little East Conference All-Star selections during her tenure.

About Coach Bergen: Bergen grew up in Wells, VT, and attended high school just across the border in Granville, NY where she excelled in field hockey, basketball, and softball.  She was a two-year field hockey captain, MVP, and helped her team to the C-CC title game.  An active participant in the USA Field Hockey Futures Program, Bergen attended a Level I site and was selected to participate in two National Futures Championships.   Bergen has acheived Level 3 coaching certification through USA Field Hockey, the highest possible level.

Before Westfield: Bergen earned a master of science in exercise science with a concentration in sport and exercise psychology from Springfield College, where she served as an assistant field hockey coach and teaching fellow.  After her time at Springfield, Bergen came to Westfield State from nearby Southwick High School, where she served a two-year stint as head coach, turning the team around from 0-17-1 to just shy of a tournament bid at 4-8-5. A 2008 graduate of Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs, N.Y., Bergen competed on four nationally-ranked field hockey teams, participated in four Liberty League Championships, and hosted two NCAA regional matches advancing to the second round of the tournament.  She was also a member of the softball program and SAAC during her time at Skidmore.
