WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State got a pair of goals from Shannon Roycroft (Centerville/Proctor Acad) as the Owls shut out Simmons College, 3-0 in a non-conference field hockey game at Alumni Field on Wednesday night.
The Owls took a 1-0 lead 12:40 into the contest as Jill Hamel (Uxbridge, Mass.) blasted a shot from the top of the circle, and Roycroft deflected it up into the cage.
Westfield added a second marker six minutes later, as Allie Giguere (Bishop Fenwick/Lynn, Mass.) slapped home Anna Matthews' cross.
Roycroft netted her second of the game with 10:44 left in regulation, two-touching a cross from Cheryl Latona (Granby, Conn.) and beating Simmons goalkeeper Lucy McNamara (Nauset/Brewster, Mass.) for the goal and a 3-0 Owls lead.
Westfield State's Riley Goulet (Old Rochester/Marion, Mass.) made six saves to earn the shutout. McNamara finished with four saves for the Sharks.
Westfield will be back in action on Saturday, travelling to Rivier (NH) College for a 1:00 p.m. non-conference game.
