Owls Field Hockey Earns NFHCA Academic Awards

Westfield State University field hockey has received several academic awards from the National Field Hockey Coaches Association for both team and individual accomplishments.

As a team, the Westfield State field hockey team earned the 2018 National Academic Team award, which recognizes programs that earned a grade point average of 3.0 or higher during the 2018-2019 fall semester.

Eight individual Owls' student athletes were recognized as well, as they have been named to the NFHCA's 2018 Division III National Academic Squad, which recognizes players who achieved a 3.3 or higher grade-point average.

Named to the National Academic Squad were: Brittany Bowes (Sr., Leicester, Mass.), Jordyn Gosselin (Sr., Bolton, Vt./Mount Mansfield), Riley Goulet (Fr. Marion, Mass./Old Rochester), Cheryl Latona (Fr., Granby, Conn.) , Madison Shea, Marina Small (So., South Harwich, Mass./Monomoy Reg.) , Katherine Vamosi (So., Easton, Mass.) and Carly Zona (Sr. Auburn, Mass.) .

A total of 1,746 student athletes from 147 Division III schools who earned this recognition.

Westfield State is one out of 131 programs to earn the 2018 National Academic team award.

The Owls finished with 6-13 record in 2018, 4-8 in conference under head coach Jessica Bergen.
