WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State freshman running back Leesandro Colon (Holyoke, Mass.) was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference rookie of the week, as sponsored by Geico.

Colon carried the ball 20 times for 132 yards and two touchdowns, scoring on runs of 15 and 14 yards.  His TD midway through the third quarter gave Westfield the lead for good, as the Owls rallied from a 7-6 halftime deficit to win 26-7 at Fitchburg State.

Colon has earned more playing time in the Owls backfield over the past two weeks.  For the season, he has totaled 28 carries for 168 yards and three touchdowns.

The Owls have a bye this weekend, but will be back in action on Saturday, November 9 at Alumni Field, hosting Worcester State.
