  • Owls Announce 24th Athletic Hall of Fame Class

    The class includes soccer standout Denis Dugas ‘76, NCAA high jump national champion Marlee Berg-Haryasz ‘09, Chris Lapointe ‘04, quarterback of the 2001 undefeated season football team, record-setting volleyball hitter Lindsay (Skaret) Gundersen ‘07, all-conference soccer midfielder Chris Streeter ‘98, and longtime coach and athletic director Ken Magarian ’71. The 1978 ECAC Championship men’s ice hockey team will be recognized as a team of distinction.

    Westfield State senior quarterback Andrew Peltier (Holyoke, Mass.) threw for two TD’s and ran for two more, and freshman running back Leesandro Colon (Holyoke, Mass.) ran for 194 yards and a TD as the Owls topped Worcester State, 38-15 at Alumni Field on Saturday afternoon.

    Freshman running back Leesando Colon erupted for 132 rushing yards and two td’s and junior safety Alijah Ellis came up with a pair of interceptions to lead Westfield State football to its first win of the season, 26-7 over Fitchburg State at Elliot Field on Saturday to spoil the Falcons’ homecoming game.

    Senior running back Shaquille Adjei ran for 67 yards and a touchdown, and Kevin Faughnan caught a 34-yard touchdown pass to lead Westfield State’s efforts, as the Owls lost a high-scoring affair to Western Connecticut, 62-28, in Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference football at the Westside Athletic Complex in Danbury, Conn. on Saturday.
