First Year as Head Coach at Westfield: Spring 2014

Season Highlights:

2023: The Owls defeated Eastern Connecticut State, the reigning Division III Champions and #2-nationally ranked team in DIII, 10-1 while also defeating #36-nationally ranked Centenary College on their spring break trip in Memphis, Tennessee by a final score of 3-2… finished the season with a record of 19-19, earning the third seed in the MASCAC Tournament with a 13-8 league mark… Recorded four wins against NCAA Tournament teams… A total of four Owls players were selected to the MASCAC All-Conference Teams.

2022: Westfield State received votes in the Collegiate baseball top 40 preseason national poll  . . .  team finished second in the MASCAC regular season  . . .  finished with a 24-16 overall record  . . . . Owls played a tough schedule that included national #1 and eventual national champion ECSU  . . . Senior OF Nick Martin was named to the ABCA All-Region Team  . . . first-year Sam Palmer picked up NCBWA national rookie-of-the week honors on April 7  . . . four players were named to the MASCAC All-Conference teams. 

2021: Westfield State played a limited schedule due to the lingering COVID-19 pandemic  . . . The Owls finished 18-8 overall and 6-4 in designated conference games  . . . eight Owls were named to the MASCAC All-Conference teams ... starting pitcher Shane Bogli started against the Israel National Team in a summer exhibition game with the Bridgeport Blues  . . .  Owls were tabbed the preseason favorite by D3Baseball.com and received votes in the Collegiate Baseball preseason poll  . . .  remained in contention for conference regular-season title until the final day of the regular season.

2020: Westfield State had it's season cut short when the worldwide Covid-19 pandemic struck in mid-March  . . .  Owls were on their annual Florida trip at the time and had faced the #12 and #15 ranked teams in the nation on that trip  . . .  senior utilityman Casey Boudreau was named to the CoSIDA Academic All-District team ... Westfield was picked first in the MASCA Preseason poll . . . . three players named as Players to Watch by Collegiate Baseball.

2019: After receiving votes in the preseason Collegiate Baseball top 40 national poll, Bashaw led Westfield State to a 28-16 overall record, as the Owls won the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference title, and the the league tournament title to capture an automatic bid to the NCAA Tournament for a second straight season.  In the Union, N.J., regional, the Owls knocked off #19 Ithaca College in the opening round of the tournament, before eventually being eliminated by DIII CWS participant Shenandoah (Va.) University.  

Owls OF/DH Anthony Crowley was named the league's player of the year for a second straight season and was named to the D3Baseball.com All-Region and All-America teams. In total the Owls placed six players on the MASCAC All-conference teams.

2018: Bashaw's Owls finished the year with a 24-18 overall record. They claimed the MASCAC's regular season crown for the second straight year with a 10-4 record in league play, then won the conference tournament to secure an automatic bid in the NCAA Division III national championship tournament. The Owls played in the Auburn, N.Y. Regional tournament, eventually falling to nationally-ranked Cortland State (N.Y.) and Baldwin-Wallace (Ohio) in the double elimination bracket.

Individual players also enjoyed great success under Bashaw's guidance, as Westfield State junior outfielder Anthony Crowley was the MASCAC player of the Year and an All-New England selection for a second straight year, and junior lefthander John Gegetskas was the league's pitcher of the year and an All-New England pick. Senior DH Alex Lafayette was a D3Baseball.com All-New England player, and was named to the Google Cloud Academic All-America team as selected by the College Sports Information Directors of America. Owls sophomore third-baseman Brett Dooley and outfielder John Lippincott were also all-conference picks.

Westfield knocked off national number-1 ranked UMass-Boston at Hagan Field in late March, one of many highlights in Bashaw's 2018 campaign.

Career Highlights:

The two-time reigning MASCAC sportmanship coach of the year,  Bashaw led the Owls to a 28-9 overall record, and a 12-2 mark in the MASCAC in 2017, winning the conference's regular-season title. The Owls were ranked in New England for most of the season and received votes in the national polls on several occasions. Owls' pitcher Matt Nunes and outfielder Anthony Crowley earned All-New England Honors.

In 2015, Bashaw led Westfield State to a 20-13 record, including an 8-2 record in the RussMatt invitational in Florida to open the season. The team featured three all-conference players, and junior outfielder Danny DiMatteo played in the prestigious NECBL after the season.

Before Westfield:

Bashaw joined the Owls in August of 2013 after serving a three-year stint as head coach at nearby Elms College in Chicopee.

At Elms, Bashaw quickly built the Blazers into a competitive program. The Blazers won the most games (20) in program history in 2013, qualified for the postseason twice, received its first ECAC bid, and notched its first ECAC tournament victory. In his debut season in 2011, Bashaw guided the Blazers to the second-highest win total since the 2005 season, notching 15 victories. In 2012 he led Elms to a 14-win season and its first berth in the New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) tournament since 2009.

Prior to Elms College, Bashaw served as the assistant baseball coach at Gettysburg College in Pennsylvania from 2005-2010. Bashaw primarily coached the catchers and hitters at Gettysburg, and he assisted in the scheduling of practices, recruiting, and the coordination of fall showcase clinics. Bashaw helped guide Gettysburg to the program's second highest win total (26) in 2007 and two Centennial Conference postseason appearances. He also served as an assistant coach at Dickinson College in Carlisle, Pa., during the 2004 and 2005 seasons. In addition to his baseball coaching duties at Gettysburg, he served as director of campus recreation and was promoted to assistant athletics director in 2009. At Elms, his secondary duties included coordinating the intramurals program, home game management, and teaching physical education courses.

Bashaw also takes on additional duties at Westfield State, serving as the assistant sports information director with an emphasis on scheduling and promoting the Owls 21-sport varsity program.

Bashaw was a standout player at Gettysburg from 2000-03. He was a three-year starter at shortstop and team captain his senior year, earning all-conference honors after hitting .341 and finishing in the top 10 in the league in hits and runs scored. He set a school record with 101 assists as a junior and finished his career with a .310 batting average.

Bashaw earned his a bachelor's degree in classical studies with a minor in mathematics from Gettysburg. He earned a master's in exercise science and physical education with an emphasis in administration from McDaniel College (Westminster, Md.) in 2006.
