Springfield, Mass. - April 24, 2019 -  Springfield College baseball team scored on seven runs in the bottom of the first and added three more in the bottom of the third en route to a 10-5 victory over Westfield State in non-conference play at Archie Allen Field on Wednesday afternoon.

With the win, the Pride improves to 18-15 overall, while the Owls fall to 19-10 on the year.

For Springfield, sophomore Jack Cooney (Pittsfield, Mass.) went 2-for-4 with three RBI, while Jason Bean (Middleboro, Mass.) and Noah Bleakley (Granby, Mass.) each had two RBI in the win.

Westfield was led by two hits and three RBI from Nick Martin (Shrewsbury, Mass.) , one of six Owls players to rap out a pair of hits on the day.  Westfield had 14 total hits on the day, but left eight men on base, including stranding a pair of runners in the first and second inning, and managed just one run in the sixth after loading the bases with two out.

Springfield College got things going in the bottom of the first inning when Cooney singled up the middle to score Brandon Russo (Lisbon, Conn.), before Bleakley filed out to center, but Cooney tagged up and scored to make it 2-0. Cam Rivest (Agawam, Mass.) then singled to left to score Mark Serricchio (Stamford, Conn.), before Bean laced a two-run single to left, plating Brandon Drabinski(Lisbon, Conn.) and Jack Simonetty (Wappingers Falls, N.Y.).

The rally continued when Russo walked with the bases loaded, allowing Rivest to come home, before Cooney reached on a fielder's choice, scoring Bean to make it 7-0.

Westfield answered with three runs in the second inning, scoring one on freshman Jacob Butler's (St. Mary's HS/Westfield, Mass.) RBI single, before Martin drove in two more with another base knock.

Springfield College pushed its lead back to seven with three runs in the bottom of the third.

Westfield State would tack on a run in the top of the sixth and two in the top of the seventh, but the Pride's bullpen locked in and held off a late push from the Owls.

Freshman pitcher Mitch Wright (Clifton Park, N.Y.) got the win for the Pride pitching 5.0 innings, allowing eight hits while striking out a pair.

Vincenzo Camera (East Haven, Conn.) (0-2) took the loss for Westfield.   The Owls will be back in action on Thursday, hosting Western New England at Hagan Field at 3:30 p.m.
