David Brown (’94) is one of Westfield State’s finest all around basketball players. A superb scorer, rebounder, passer and defender, Brown played three years at Westfield State, helping lead the Owls to three consecutive postseason berths: the NCAA Tournament in 1993 and the ECAC Tournament in 1992 and 1994.

In 71 career games, Brown averaged 14.6 points, 5.4 rebounds, 4.9 assists and 3.0 steals. He scored 1,035 points and holds school records for career assists (373) and steals (224). He also holds the school record for steals (122) in a season when he ranked third nationally in 1994.

Despite measuring 5-11, Brown led the talented 1993 team in rebounding, averaging nearly seven boards (6.93) per game. He ranked second in scoring, steals and assists for the stellar squad that posted a glittering 22-6 record in setting the school standard for most victories in a season.

Brown, a team captain, was an all-conference selection for the Owls during his junior and senior seasons. Prior to arriving at Westfield, he played a year at both North Shore Community College and Maine Central Institute. He graduated from Lynn St. Mary’s High School, where he was a standout in both basketball and football.

Brown still resides in his hometown of Lynn and has been a patrol officer in Winthrop since 1995. He also has coached basketball since graduating from Westfield State, including the past six years at the head coach at Winthrop High School.

Brown is married to Helen Pedro, also a Westfield State 1994 graduate, and they have three children: Ava (7), Eliza (5), and David Jr. (3).
