Owls Stockpile MASCAC Weekly Honors

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Four Westfield State University athletes garnered weekly awards from the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference this week.

Women's cross country's Amy O'Sullivan (Greenfield, Mass.) and Grace Phair  (Stockbridge, Mass./Monument Mtn.) were named the league's Runner and Rookie of the week, men's cross country freshman Jack Merck (West Springfield, Mass.) picked up the men's rookie of the week award.

In women's soccer, junior midfielder Lydia Kinsman (Granville, Mass. /Southwick-Tolland) was named the player of the week.  Kinsman scored a pair of goals in the Owls 5-1 conference win over Framingham State on Saturday afternoon and added an assist earlier in the week.

O'Sullivan finished first among collegiate runners at the Owls' James Earley Invitational meet at Stanley Park in Westfield, leading the team to a third-place finish.  She covered the 5,000-meter course in 18:01.97.  Phair placed fifth in the meet, just 25 seconds behind O'Sullivan.

Merck was the top runner for the Owl men, finishing seventh among collegiate runners in 26:30, helping to lead Westfield State to a second place team finish.
