WESTFIELD, Mass. - Freshman Amy O'Sullivan (Greenfield, Mass.) led the way for the Westfield State Owls at 30th annual Gettysburg Invitational Cross Country meet on campus at Gettysburg (Pa.) College on Saturday. O'Sullivan finished in 29th place among 318 runners and 30 scoring teams.
The Owl women ran the 6k distance in competition for the first time this season on a cool day and a flat, muddy course. O'Sullivan finished in 24:08, followed by Andrea Noland in 46th, Kerry O'Neill in 68th and Julie Carroll in 89th, as the Owls placed their top five among the top 100 runners en route to an eighth overall team finish.
Westfield was the best scoring Division III program in the meet, which was won by NCAA Division II member Cedarville (Ohio) University. The Owls finished ahead of one Division I and several Division II institutions.
The race was part of a 2- day trip for the Owls team, which included a tour of battlefield sites and the museum on Friday, as well as a training run in the national park.
