WESTFIELD, Mass.  –  Westfield State freshman Amy O'Sullivan placed second in the individual standings in the women's 5k race at the Purple Valley Invitational cross country meet at Mount Greylock in Williamstown, Mass. on Saturday.

O'Sullivan tripped the course in 20:13.1, nine seconds off the pace of race winner Grace Dailey from Williams.

Kerry O'Neill came in in 19th in 21:42 followed by Lauren Fitzgerald in 28th in 22:05.8.

"We competed in the 5k race, as that is the course and distance we will compete at in the MASCAC championships," said Westfield State head coach Bill Devine.  "The team is coming along nicely at this point in the season."

The meet featured both 5 and 6 kilometer races in the women's divisions.

The Owls placed fourth as a team, behind Williams, Tufts and Plymouth State among 11 complete teams and 108 total competitors in the race.

Westfield will be back in action on October 6, when the Owls host the James Earley Invitational meet at Stanley Park in Westfield.
