Owls Pile Up MASCAC Weekly Honors

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State women's volleyball senior Bridgette McAndrews (Longmeadow, Mass.), men's soccer forward Santino Mazza (East Longmeadow, Mass.), and women's soccer midfielder Tia Tollis (East Longmeadow, Mass.) all earned conference honors this past week in their respective sports.

McAndrews was named the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference Offensive Player of the Week after averaging 13.5 kills and 22.5 digs with three service aces and two blocks in a 1-1 week for the Owls.

She finished with 17 kills, 22 digs and three service aces in a five-set victory over MCLA on Tuesday then posted a ten-dig, 23-dig match in a four-set loss to Mount Holyoke this past Saturday. On the season, the senior outside hitter leads the Owls in kills (117), digs (209), and is tied for the team lead in service aces (18).

Mazza received the MASCAC Offensive Player of the Week after leading the men's soccer team to a come-from-behind victory over MCLA to move the Owls to 3-0 in conference play. He buried the equalizing goal midway through the second half, then connected on the game-winning tally with less than two minutes left to play in regulation to defeat the Trailblazers 3-2.

On the season, Mazza is tied for second on the Owls with six points and has collected two goals and two assists in his first seven games for Westfield.

Tollis took home the MASCAC Rookie of the Week after fueling the Owls offense this past weekend, scoring two goals including the game-winning score in Westfield's 3-0 win over MCLA on Saturday evening from Alumni Field as part of Family and Champions Weekend.

Through her first nine collegiate games, Tollis is tied for sixth in the MASCAC with four goals and has totaled nine points.

Owls football players' Max Margeson (Littleton, Colo.) and Cooper Harvey (Niskayuna, N.Y.) added to the Owls weekly honors total after Westfield defeated Mass. Maritime 17-10 to secure their first win of the season.
