Volleyball Drops Pair at MIT

WESTFIELD, Mass. – Westfield State volleyball dropped a pair of non-conference matches on Saturday, falling 3-1 to Mount Holyoke in a hard fought match, before #23 MIT topped the Owls 3-0 in the nightcap of a tri match in Cambridge, Mass. on Saturday afternoon.

In the opener, Westfield got 10 kills and six blocks from Julia Bartiet, and 10 kills and 23 digs from Bridgette McAndrews, but the Lyons prevailed, 25-19, 18-25, 25-22, and 25-21.

In the nightcap, the 23rd ranked Engineers (13-3) overpowered the Owls 25-6, 25-10, and 25-13.

Peyton Brown hammered 11 kills for the hosts, who held a 45-11 advantage in team kills in the match.

Westfield was led by seven kills from Hanna Nihill.

Westfield dips to 1-14 on the season.  The Owls are 0-14 in non-conference matchups but sit atop the MASCAC with a 1-0 league mark. Westfield will host Elms in a non-conference game on Tuesday evening, before getting back in to conference play on Friday night with a game at Framingham State.
