WESTFIELD, Mass. -- The Westfield State women's volleyball team named four members to the Massachusetts State Collegiate Athletic Conference (MASCAC) All-Conference team and Coach Fred Glanville was named Coach of the Year for the 2019 season, as annonced by the league earlier this afternoon.
Senior middle-hitter Brianna Starkey (Rockland, Mass.), senior libero Lizzie Taylor (Medfield, Mass.), and senior setter Ally Rega (Chelmsford, Mass.) were all named to the first team, while sophomore middle-hitter Ashley Crowley (Billerica, Mass.) was selected to the second team.
Starkey ranked within the top four in the league in kills (276), kills per set (2.56), and blocks per set (0.76) for the year. In four years at Westfield, Starkey ranks fifth all-time in total kills (921) and fourth in kills per set (2.46) and has established herself as one of the Owls' best middle-hitters in recent years.
Taylor led the MASCAC ,by a large margin, in digs (612) and digs per set (5.83) after another stellar year in the libero spot. She also ranked second in the league in aces per set (0.58) with 61 total aces on the season. Taylor hit the 2,000 dig marker earlier this fall, bringing her career total to 2,272 - good for the all-time lead at Westfield by over 600 digs.
Rega was second in the league in assists per set (8.09), chipping in 28 service aces and 288 digs in the process. Rega will finish third on the all-time list at Westfield in assists per set for her career (7.14).
Crowley took on a larger role this season, appearing in eight more matches than her freshman year. Crowley finished fifth in the MASCAC in kills (241) and third in blocks per set (0.61) and was a real dynamic middle-hitter for the Owls on the front line.
Coach Glanville earned his 7th Coach of the Year honors in his 17th season as head coach.
With the conference tournament behind them, the Owls now turn their attention to the NCAA tournament. Westfield travels to Potsdam, N.Y. on Friday to face Clarkson in the opening round of the 2019 NCAA Women's Volleyball Tournament.
